The Cabin Getaway: Contemporary Sweet Romance (Short Story) Page 5

Miles knew he should go. That's when Lawrence spotted him. They looked at each other for the longest moment. A thousand emotions crossed over Lawrence's face. Miles wasn't sure what to do; should he go? Should he stay?

It seemed to happen in slow motion. Lawrence dropped the ornament on the floor, and it shattered, but that didn't stop him from flying down the ladder to the front door. Miles started toward the door as well, just in time to catch Lawrence as he pulled him into his arms.

Lawrence covered him in kisses in the middle of Pearl Street, and Miles could care less what others thought. The man he wanted to be with was in his arms again.

  “What are you doing here?”

“I was fired from my job and put my house up for sale,” Miles said.

“You were fired? I thought you worked with your brother?”

“I did, but the company is letting go of most of the staff.”

“So, you thought you might be able to squat with me?”

Miles laughed. “No, I’m looking at apartments and a new job.”

“Here in Colorado?” Miles couldn’t tell if Lawrence was happy or upset about that.

“Well, I thought maybe it was time for a change of scenery.”

“Then you have to move in with me and help me out in the store.”

"I…" Miles looked at the shop; he would love to work for a small novelty store like this. "I couldn't, I wouldn't want to impose."

“You wouldn’t be imposing.” Lawrence looked up at him, “You could look for your own place but you know you’ll be spending most your time at mine anyway.” Miles laughed. It was most likely true. “I’d love to have you in my life.

Miles smiled and felt his eyes burn with tears. Lawrence was so wonderful and kind, how did he ever find such a man?

  “I love you,” Miles said.

Lawrence’s face lit up. “I love you too.”
